2nd Anniversary Message Today we celebrate our second anniversary worshipping in AMK Hub. We started with less than 100, but today we have more than 300 strong. “This is the Lord’s doing, it is marvellous
in our eyes” (Ps. 118:23). Praise God! They were a worshipping Church I think it’s wonderful when someone walks into our church and sees different ages, different cultures, different races – with one thing in common: Jesus Christ. That is a truly loving Church and the Church will grow immensely. Every one of us has a vital part to play to make ALFC the kind of place that will attract others to Christ. Let’s do our best for the glory of God. God bless! - Pastor 09/08/2009 Redeemed and Rejoicing! Even though God Himself led His people through a pillar of smoke and fire, the Israelites still panicked at the sight of Pharaoh and his army advancing towards them. They even complained to Moses saying they would prefer going back to Egypt as slaves than have their freedom! Beloved, do we find ourselves sometimes in this same state when things turn difficult for us? Thank God He does not leave us hopeless or allow us to be stuck in hopeless situations. Instead God is always quick to offer us His great and precious promises of deliverance just as He challenged Moses and the people to keep moving, promising them that He will deliver them once and for all from their captivity. By God’s will and through Moses’ hand, the waters of the Red Sea were divided to allow the Israelites to first pass through safely to the other side on dry land; after which the waters were left to unleash down on the pursuing Egyptian army. Dearly beloved, God sometimes allow us to be in "hopeless" positions so that we can see His mighty power as He delivers us, for He has promised: "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9) So on our part, dear brothers, sisters and friends, we should not waver nor be afraid. Instead, let us look to the Lord for He alone can redeem and deliver us from the ills, evils and bondages we might still be caught up with. Let us not wait until we witness a dramatic turn of events like how Israel saw the great power of the Lord work against the Egyptians before we start to fear and trust God and believe in His strength. Instead, let us be willing to surrender to God and live as He has willed for our lives for He knows best what’s good for us. Amen! “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" Exodus 14:14 “Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant” 1 Kings 8:56 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10 - Pastor 08/03/2009 Living a Life of Faith and Obedience Beloved, just imagine what would have happened if Noah had said, “Yes, I believe God, but I don’t have to actually build a boat to be saved, because that would be salvation by works”? If that was the case, not only would Noah and the others have drowned; you and I would not be around to experience God’s gift of life and blessings! Thank God, Noah was a righteous man of great faith who also lived by faith. He had found favour with God, but more importantly, he trusted God wholeheartedly and unreservedly. He took God’s advice, built an ark and as a result of that, saved himself and many others from the flood! Beloved, faith is not complete without obedience. Noah showed us that we need to put our faith into action. Simply put, faith without works is dead! With this promise, my beloved, know that even when wickedness threatens to overwhelm us, we still have God’s promise of love, ‘the new covenant in Christ’s blood’ (1 Corinthians 11:25). Knowing that Christ loved us and died for us, we must aspire to be like Noah, faithful and obedient whatever the circumstance, (Genesis 6:22) to walk with the Lord and serve Him. At this juncture I feel compelled to say “Awake and arise, all we who call ourselves Christians—and let us walk our talk; remembering the fact that whenever we see a rainbow appear in the clouds, that is the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth! Our God will always keep His Word because He is faithful. Amen! “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations” Deuteronomy 7:9 “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me” John 14:21 "What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?”James 2:14 - Pastor 22/02/2009 The Lord God: Our Creator, Father, Provider and Judge “Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. “For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:15-16). He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is our Creator, Provider, Healer, Redeemer, Judge, Defender and more. Beloved, the above says it all about our great and awesome God who truly is worthy of our praise and worship! We were created by God to praise Him (Isaiah. 43:7; Matthew. 21:16) for God dwells in the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). So dearly beloved, for year 2009, let us resolve to focus our minds on God, proclaim His goodness and greatness, and engage ourselves in a deeper union with Him (James 4:8),and claim His promise of loving protection over us.( 2 Samuel 22:47-55) Amen & God bless! "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10 "This is what your Sovereign LORD says, your God, who defends His people: "See, I have taken out of your hand the cup that made you stagger; from that cup, the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again..." " Isaiah 51:22 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life." Revelation 21:6 "Sing to the Lord, all the earth; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods" 1 Chronicles. 16:23-25 - Pastor 01/02/2009 The Will of God about Prosperity Jesus said in John 10:10, ”The thief comes to kill, steal and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." Beloved, God's will is that we may all have abundant lives! Our God is a good God, and His will for mankind is that they prosper. Prosperity comes in the form of blessings from the Lord when people follow His ways. Proverbs 10:22 shares that “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and He adds no trouble to it". A confirmation on this reiterates, "With Me are riches and honour, enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver... bestowing wealth on those who love Me and making their treasuries full." Proverbs 8:18-19&21. The apostle John, known for his closeness to the heart of God, wrote, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers" 3 John 2. This verse clearly shows that God wants us to prosper in all things, for "the Lord takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant," Psalm 35:27. The Bible reminds us to "honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.'' Proverbs 3:9-10 "Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the Lord... whatever he does prospers" Psalm 1:2&3 "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful and do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Joshua 1:8 "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment." 1 Timothy 6:17 - Pastor 25/01/2009 Traits of a Healthy Model Church We should aspire to be like the Thessalonica church which Paul described as the model church. It had spiritual vitality and fitted the profile of a “healthy” church, ie. one that has the right ethos (disposition, character, or fundamental values), attitudes and priorities - a church characterised by faith, hope and love! Beloved, let us look at what makes a healthy church. The first mark of a healthy church is one that is made up of people who are converted - an elect people (v4) who have “turned” to a living and true God from their idols (self, money, possessions, career, or even family). The second characteristic of a healthy church is that it should be comprised of an exemplary people who exhibit spiritual buoyancy: who have the power to rise above life's storms to remain steadfast and hopeful so they can keep doing what God wants them to do. The third trait calls us to be an enthusiastic people (v8) made up of people who actively share their faith with others. Beloved, what could be more natural than this? That when we put our faith in Christ to reconcile us to God, and when He assures us of His love by granting us hope through His Holy Spirit, the natural response is that we would also want to tell others about what Christ has given to us so they can have it too! We need to share Jesus with others in our daily lives - sharing the gospel, the good news that brings salvation! As individuals and as a church, we need to be like a telecommunications satellite, which having received the message, transmits the message on. Our faith needs to “go forth” and move others-- it is something we have to continually work at, because it is God’s simple plan for evangelism -- that the local church as a group take the gospel out to the community that we live in. My beloved in ALFC, let us rise up to the challenge to be the model church shining healthily for our Lord and Saviour, continually bringing the good news of Jesus to the community. Let us turn to God, and continue to serve Him, and be an expectant people, the fourth trait of a healthy model church, waiting expectantly for His return with the sure hope of heaven which is our true home, where we will be in the presence of Jesus and see Him face to face! Amen and God bless! “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord”. This hymn by Samuel Stone (1839-1900) is a great favourite. Its inspiration comes especially from 1 Corinthians 3:11: “No one can lay any other foundation than the one that has been laid, Jesus Christ”. - Pastor 18/01/2009 Tough Times Never Last ... Tough People Do! The global financial crisis of 2008 is a major financial crisis; the worst of its kind since the Great Depression. Banks are collapsing and financial institutions are looking more and more to their government for help. On 14th September, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy after the Federal Reserve Bank declined to rescue it. On the same day of Lehman’s bankruptcy, one of the world’s largest investment banks, Merrill Lynch, was bought by Bank of America. Two days later, the American International Group realised they were not able to find leaders willing to save it from bankruptcy, and were granted a credit facility for up to US$85 billion by the Federal Reserve. Are we in Singapore spared these troubles? NO! The truth is, Singapore is particularly vulnerable to the global economic slowdown as more than two thirds of its industry production is export-based. There are no iron rice bowls; there is no safety! Thousands in Singapore have already suffered job losses, and many more are expected to lose their jobs in the months ahead as the daily news report. As each of us grapples with the bleak forecast for 2009, and the fact that all is going the way of doom and gloom, let me share the good news that all is not lost. Friends, tough times never last but tough people do! Each one of us has problems. No life is problem-free. The first step we need to take however is to put our problems in proper perspective. Let us stop making mountains of molehills. Let us never let a problem become an excuse! Too many people worry and get upset over the slightest of things. Friends, that’s not the way God wants us to live. When we truly trust Him and believe He is in control, we can rest. Whatever our present circumstance may be, you and I need to know that God is constantly at work in our lives. Know that God loves you just the way you are regardless of the problems, failures, shortcomings or sins you may have. God’s love for you never ceases. Though we may spurn, ignore, reject, despise, disobey or rebel against Him, He will not change towards us. Realise too that our sins cannot diminish or extinguish His love; neither can our good works increase His love for us. God doesn’t love us less if we fail or more if we succeed in life. God has shown us how much He cares and loves us; it was while we were still sinners that Jesus Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) Jesus Christ has fulfilled the justice of God on our behalf by paying the penalty for sin with His blood. He rose again from the dead. He is alive forever more. We cannot add to His perfect work. However we are commanded to repent of our sins, believe in Christ and receive Him into our lives. To have forgiveness of sin and be at peace with God-- this is true prosperity and blessedness! God didn’t create us to be average. He didn’t make us to barely get by. We were created to excel. God not only chose us but He equipped us with everything we need to live His abundant life. You are not here on earth by accident. God has a plan and purpose for your life. He has an assignment for you. And it is not just to drift around in mediocrity. The Lord says: I know what I am planning for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. Jeremiah 29:11. Friends, your best days are yet to come. 2009 may be bleak, but with God’s blessings, you can become a better you—better than you ever dreamed possible! - Pastor, Chinese New Year 2009 Tract Victorious Christian Living How can we live victorious Christian lives, we ask? Well, beloved, you will be happy to know that the choice is really ours to make - for if we choose to open our hearts to the Lord and allow Him to give us the victorious and abundant life He promised us, He will certainly grant us just that! John 10:10 tells us that God came so that you and I may have life, and have it more abundantly. If we have Jesus in our hearts, the Holy Spirit is always there to guide us in everything we do. And if we are sensitive to His bidding and voice, we will be filled with wonder and amazement at what God chooses to accomplish through us. Philippians 4:4-7 shares in all practicality how we can live each day victoriously in Christ. It states that we are to always rejoice in the Lord, be gentle in our ways, never be anxious about anything for God is in total control; and if we pray and petition our requests to the Lord with thanksgiving, He will grant us the peace of God that will help us guard our hearts and minds. Beloved, we must realise that core and central to our well being is our relationship with God. So let us submit ourselves to God, stand fast on the Word of God and don’t compromise with the devil, advised James 4:7. Let us also witness with our lifestyle and our words, setting the Word of God as the ultimate truth and final authority in every area of our lives. Amen! “Thank God that He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:57 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” 1 John 4:4 -Pastor 14/12/2008 Jesus Christ is coming back in triumph, glory and majesty! In today’s scripture passage, Paul comforts by stating that the souls of those who have died in Christ are now with God. Beloved, when Christ returns, our sleeping bodies will be clothed with heavenly glory! 1 Thessalonians 4:14 &16 reads “if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus…For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” Not only will our bodies be clothed in heavenly glory, but we shall be caught up together with ‘them’ referring to ‘the dead in Christ’. This means that all followers of Jesus, those who went before us and those alive will be reunited with Christ, and that “we shall always be with Lord.” (v17). Beloved, “Therefore comfort one another with these words” (v18), that through Christ, we will be with the Lord and one another forever. And through Christ, there is hope of life even in the face of death! Let us remember Christ’s promise “Today, you shall be with Me in Paradise”; for with that blessed assurance, dearly beloved, we can confidently and joyously declare that for us to live is Christ, and to die is great gain! Amen and God bless! “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” Psalms 27:14 “I have told you these things, so that in Me, you may have Peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” John 16:33 - Pastor 07/12/08 Christ is coming again! “The last days are approaching, Jesus is coming again.” W e hear this statement ever so often especially of late. But just what do we understand by this? The Second Coming is the literal return of Jesus Christ to earth as King in power and glory to rule for a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-6). Jesus promised, "At that time, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30). Revelation 19:11-12 proclaims "I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself." The Bible details the Second Coming of Christ so that we can prepare ourselves, for it is written that at His coming, "He will reward each according to His works" (Matt 16:27). We read in Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Believing in God and His promises, followed by a life of serving Him and His Son can bring this gift of immortality. In Rev 22:12 we have the words of Jesus Christ, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to give everyone according to his work.” Amen! - Pastor 30/11/2008 Praise Nite, Take 2! ALFC will be conducting a second Praise Nite at Ang Mo Kio Hub, Level 4 Cathay Cineplex Hall 7, 8pm on the 23rd of December. Please invite your friends and relatives for an exciting personal experience with our Lord Jesus Christ, as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. Church Camp 2008 ALFC will be holding a church camp at the Harris Resort in Batam from 15th to 17th December. Prepare for a time of worship, praise and fellowship with one another as we grow in faith as one body in Christ. Please submit your details to Stephanie and Maria as soon as possible. Why do good people suffer? God, if You are loving, just and all-powerful, why do You allow good people to suffer? Evangelist Billy Graham addressed this question in his book, “Answers to Life’s Problems”. We do not know all the reasons why God permits evil. We need to remember, however, that He is not the cause of evil in this world, and we should therefore not blame Him for it. Remember that God did not create evil, as some believe. God created the world perfect. Man chose to defy God and go his own way, and it is man’s fault that evil entered the world. Even so, God has provided the ultimate triumph of good over evil in Jesus Christ, who on the cross, defeated Satan and those who follow him. Christ is coming back and when He does, all evil will be ended forever and righteousness and justice will prevail. Have you ever thought about what would happen if God suddenly eliminated all the evil in this world? Not one person would be left, because we are all guilty of sin. “If You, O lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?” (Ps. 130:3). As the Bible says, “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed for His compassion never fails” (Lam. 3:22). Why good people suffer? The answer is that there are no good people. Yes, there are people who love God and put their trust in Him, and they receive His forgiveness as a gift of grace – but there are no good people. All have sinned, and no one is entitled to anything good from God. The suffering we endure is the result of living in a fallen world. The blessings we receive are the undeserved gifts of God’s grace. When bad things happen to God’s people, God’s people keep moving, because we know that “all things ultimately work out for good for those who are called according to His purposes” (Rom. 8:28).
The Triumph of God in Christ Today is Palm Sunday and it is remembered and celebrated as Christ’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem that occurred only a few days before His crucifixion and resurrection. Importantly, dearly beloved, I would like to share two sets of lessons we can learn from our commemorating this Palm Sunday. The first is about Jesus' ride into Jerusalem on a donkey which fulfils the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. We read from the gospels which has on record that Jesus arrived in the city riding on a donkey, while the crowds greeted and waved palm branches as a symbol of victory; and shouting praises to Him in jubilation. The second lesson takes a detailed look at the events that happened in the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday ie Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection as God's provision for the perfect and final sacrifice for man's sins. Dearly beloved, let us therefore remember this day as a celebration of the triumph of God in Christ. Let us in the spirit of reverence, praise and worship acknowledge Jesus Christ as our King and Lord. (John 12:13) Brothers sisters and friends, let us also be mindful to confess our sins and then receive the good news that we are forgiven by the love of God in Jesus, the Christ—that is the real triumph we celebrate on Palm Sunday! And when we sing "all glory, laud, and honor" and "sweet hosannas" to "our Redeemer King," let us know that if we have faith in God, live justly, and forgive those who have wronged us, we will be forgiven the wrongs that we have done. Amen and God bless! “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel” John 12:13 - Pastor 10/03/2008 The Remolding Hand of God Prophet Jeremiah was sent to the Potter's house to observe how he managed his work. The Prophet took notice how the Potter wrought his work upon the wheels. When a lump of clay that he had designed to form into one shape either proved too stiff, or had a stone in it, or came to be marred in his hand, he presently turned it into another shape, just as seemed good to the Potter. As the Potter has power over the clay, so God has sovereign authority over the nations. This doesn't mean that God is irresponsible and arbitrary in what he does, even though He is free to act as He pleases. His actions are always consistent with His nature, which is holy, just, wise and loving. God doesn't need any advice from us, nor do we have the right to criticise what He does. "For who has known the mind of the Lord?" "Or who has become His counsellor?" (Romans 11:34; Isaiah 40:13) "But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, why have you made me like this?" (Romans 9:20) God's plan enables us to maximise our life. God's plan for our life is to reveal His handiwork - declare His ownership and reflect His glory. Change my heart O God, make it ever true You are the potter, I am the clay Mould me and make me, this is what I pray. - Pastor 17/02/2008 Peace and Prosperity God the Son is called the Prince of Peace. He came into the world with a song of peace, "Peace on earth, goodwill towards man." He went out of the world with a legacy of peace, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you." Christ's earnest prayer was for peace. He prayed that His people might be one. Christ not only prayed for peace, but bled for peace. "Having made peace through the blood of His Cross," He died not only to make peace between God and man, but between man and man. Christ suffered on the cross, that He might cement Christians together with His blood, as He prayed for peace, so He paid for peace. Joshua 1:8 tells us to meditate on the Word day and night and do as it says. Then we will make our way prosperous and we'll have good success. Meditating on God's Word is our blessing connection. As you meditate, the Word becomes part of you and gets inside you (1 Tim 4:15). If we are meditating in the Word, we are spending time in the presence of God. Eventually we will not only resemble Him in appearance but we will resemble Him in demonstration. The result will be prosperity and good success. - Pastor 10/02/2008 The Fall of Jericho Joshua was an experienced military leader, but nothing in all his military training could have prepared him for God's plan to take Jericho. It was his act of faith and trust in God that brought the victory. To real men of war, God’s battle strategy of having soldiers march around the city of Jericho a total of 13 times in 7 days, priests blowing trumpets, and total abstinence from fighting and use of weaponry was simply ludicrous. But God had His special plans - He required Joshua to just trust and obey. The task also demanded humility before God’s power can be revealed. Beloved, Israel experienced victory at Jericho because they had a Word from God and they believed God. They didn’t just stop at believing, they acted in faith and did it God’s way and for that, God gave them the victory! Brothers, sisters and friends, just as Israel faced the formidable walls of Jericho, we too face walls and obstacles in our lives. What’s important is that we must learn not to look upon our obstacles as dead-ends, but as opportunities for the Lord to work in our lives. We need to learn to believe the Lord, to take Him at His Word and trust Him for our victories. Today’s scripture passage holds that answer for us—so my dearly beloved, just as we witness Israel’s great conquest over Jericho, let us allow the Lord to not only break down “walls” in our lives, but to crush and ground them with His might! Amen & God bless! “The weapons we use in our fight are not the world’s weapons but God’s powerful weapons which we use to destroy strongholds. We destroy false arguments; we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ” 2 Cor 10:4-5 - Pastor 03/02/2008 Jesus Our Commander Has Come! As Joshua stood near Jericho, he looked up and saw a warrior with drawn sword in his hand. Instinctively, he drew his sword and asked who the warrior was, and whether he was an ally or enemy. The warrior replied that he has come as the Commander of the army of the Lord. On hearing this, Joshua quickly sheathed his sword and knelt, then fell on his face before the Commander asking humbly "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" The Commander replied, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy." The Commander's words are nearly identical to those of the Lord to Moses out of the burning bush some forty years earlier. (Exodus 3:5) Here the Commander is clearly Jesus Christ the Warrior, the Victor; and He comes in vengeance upon his enemies in Jericho in armed might. The message of this passage in Joshua, and the entire Bible, is that God is a mighty Warrior who will judge righteously and punish wrong. If we believe that since God is love he can never punish the wicked, then our Bible reading and understanding is narrow indeed. He is mighty and his mere presence is enough to win the battle, for the "battle is the Lord’s" (1 Samuel 17:47; Exodus 14:14). When Joshua got up from the ground, the Commander was gone. But Joshua can now go into battle assured, because he knows that God will be with him who told him, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9). Beloved, God has made that same promise to us too (Hebrews 13:5). The struggles and buffetings we experience in life are ours alone - until we surrender our lives to the Lord. At that point, and as we follow Him, they become His battles too; and He will fight for us - for His own glory - as we trust in Him. Brothers, sisters and friends, the keys to the Battle of Jericho, then, are faith and obedience as we see in Joshua's bold faith and willingness to follow the Lord into battle. Let us ask God to give us that same kind of faith to follow Him wherever He leads, and to make us warriors in His great army until Jesus returns. Amen & God bless! - Pastor 27/01/2008 The Joshua Generation Joshua was Moses' servant and then became his successor. Moses made an excellent decision when he chose Joshua as his assistant for 40 years. Joshua was very highly favoured in the matter of promises. The promises given to him by God were broadly comprehensive and exceedingly encouraging. "As I was with Moses, I will be with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous. Be careful to obey all the Law my servant Moses gave you, do not turn to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything within it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." (Joshua 1:5-8) Courage is necessary to succeed in Christian life and work. I have yet to find a man who is easily discouraged that amounts to anything, anywhere. God hasn't any use for a man who is all the time looking on the dark side. Obedience is the highest practical courage. Moses' work was incomplete with Joshua, and Joshua's work would have been impossible but for that of Moses.. Joshua learned that he was second in command! Not until we take the place of a servant, can He take His place as LORD. - Pastor 13/01/2008 Staying In The Race To understand the passage of Hebrews 12:1-3, we need to realize the extent
of persecution the Hebrew Christians underwent. They faced not only hardship
but had lost their property, lives and loved ones. Life was dismal to
say the least and many were ready to give up as they wondered if their
struggle and perseverance was worth the price they had to pay as followers
of Christ. Life is a challenge—a race filled with problems and difficulties
that can complicate and cause loss of heart. Yet the writer holds out
hope that our lives can and should be lived victoriously because God did
not save you and I so that we could live our lives in a state of discouragement.
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jer 32:27 - Pastor 06/01/2008 Two Zero Zero Eight We had a wonderful WatchNite Service on Monday where everyone was so eager to testify about God's goodness through 2007. Although it wasn't the best year for most of us, many felt greatly blessed because God was ever so close to us through every up and every down and we grew stronger in our faith in our great Lord and Saviour. There is a strong spiritual consensus that the next 366 days are going to be groundbreaking for ALFC! People are going to start working and moving and God is going to pour out His Holy Spirit upon the people! Hallelujah! We wish everyone a blessed God-filled New Year! - Keith 01/01/2008 Glory, Glory in Ang Mo Kio Indeed God has blessed us with 2 glorious services at our new hall in Ang Mo Kio Hub! Thank God for His mercy in calling and drawing people to come. We pray that God will continue to extend His mercy unto them that they will be given a thirst for the Living Water and come back every Sunday to be blessed. Thanks to all who graciously supported our transition, God will definitely bless you richly! Hallelujah! - Keith 14/08/2007 Important Announcement God has blessed us with a wonderful new place to worship Him on Sundays! From 5th August 2007, ALFC's Sunday Worship Service will be held at Ang Mo Kio Hub, Cathay Hall 7. Services will now be on Sunday mornings at 9.30am. Praise God for His wonderful grace and we pray that God will use us to mightily bless the people of that area! Hallelujah! Use your gift and talent for the Lord’s work! In Romans 12:6-8, Paul describes seven spiritual gifts that are distributed to different members in the body of Christ. Like any good leader, he recognises his role as a broker of gifts, talents and resources; and urges everyone to discover, develop and distribute his or her gift. Every resource God provides should be in use. Every believer is a steward of the abilities he or she has been given. Every leader is a manager whose goal should be to maxmise everyone’s gift. The list of gifts in Romans 12 is not exhaustive. They are commonly called “motivational gifts” which means they are central to our lives, the hub of the wheel around which our particular set of gifts revolve. Paul’s list includes: 1. Gift of Prophecy: to challenge others by declaring God’s truth
and calling for “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them” Rom 12:6 - Pastor 22/07/2007 Let’s Plug into God’s Power, Love and Witnessing Acts 4:31-35 reads "Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles' feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need". Another scripture reference Acts 2:44 also say “now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need." Beloved, the early churches were already setting exemplary behaviour standards caring, sharing, giving and loving each other in Christ. Are we united as they in one heart, mind and soul? Are we devoted to each other as in Christ? Are we helping to build our church? Are we willing to sacrifice all, even riches of this world, to proclaim Christ and bear witness to His love and salvation plan for mankind? God’s Word declares that unless we forsake all that we have, we cannot be His disciple; and even warns that anyone who tries to save his own life will lose it. Brothers and sisters, God never promised that our Christian walk will always be easy but He did promise He will be there for us 24/7 if we ask and let Him. As your Pastor, my greatest success is to have each and every one of you purpose your lives in the way and will of God, proclaiming also His imminent return. Let us plug into God’s power, love and rich resource; and be a witnessing church filled with a people of great faith to reach the un-loved and un-saved with the message of hope, cheer and abundant life in our gracious Lord Jesus. Amen & God bless! "Do not love the world or the things of the world." I John 2:15 "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these things we shall be content”. I Timothy 6:6-8 - Pastor 15/07/2007 Ambassadors For Christ Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Beloved, we are all ambassadors for the Lord with the honour that comes with it from God. But what does this mean, we ask? First and foremost, we need to know that as a citizen of
Heaven, we have been assigned by God during our time on this earth to
spread the Gospel, serve and fellowship with others and also endeavour
to grow spiritually. In short, as Christians, we should be geared towards
our overall purpose to love and magnify God. - Pastor 08/07/2007 Faith of a Woman and Mother Scripture Reference: Matthew 15:21-28 - Pastor 01/07/2007 A good start is NO guarantee of a successful finish Scripture Reference: 2 Chronicles 26 - Pastor 23/06/2007 All Things are Possible when we Believe Salvation for our families is God's promise to believers, and our pleading
prayer is the key to ensuring our loved ones enter the kingdom of God.
"The time is here, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:15 - Pastor 17/06/2007 Our Sufficiency is in Christ We see, hear and read of terror and troubles looming over lives and the world around us. As disaster and disease continue to threaten and destroy, people are getting more afraid, nervous, anxious, depressed and disillusioned with the uncertainties of the times and the inescapable forces of evil around us. Sadly, many of God’s people today live in an unsettled state, resulting from their not fully receiving God’s provision--Jesus Christ--into their hearts! No doubt this sad and painful situation is brought about by various contributing causes—such as our choice to fully rely on the limited powers of our human mind and strength; our secret pining to have and own things from the secular world; and our self-occupied hearts. All these other preoccupation leaves very little reserve in the heart regarding the claims of God, of Christ, and of eternity. And because of this, the lives of many Christians today still lack settled peace. As God's people, we must rise above the mood of fear and despair. God’s Word tells us that if we truly believe in the reality of God, we must hold on to His Love and Power to enter the dark shadows of our time. God is good all the time even though life is not good all the time. We need to claim God's wisdom so we can affirm His goodness, discern His Love in our pain, delight in Him and find pleasure in His comfort and grace even in our suffering. The Goodness of God is such that even if we don't have everything in life, we will lack no good thing. Beloved, there can be no rest until the Holy Spirit reveals a full and an all-sufficient Christ to our hearts. So, by the grace of God, I pray that we will let Christ be the only true object for our hearts; and His Word, the only true guide for our path. Be assured, brothers and sisters, that when God brings a soul to the end of self, that soul will be resting in Christ, and when that happens, therein dwells the perfect peace of God. Amen and God Bless! “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3-4 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7 - Pastor 10/06/2007 Wait on the Lord Psalm 27 is a song of cheerful hope and the message is clear. It describes
God's relationship to His people. He is our "light" and our
"stronghold"; He hears His people and "receives" them.
- Pastor 03/06/2007 The Power of Pentecost The Bible teaches that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for ALL believers, and that it is only with God's power that we can be effective witnesses to the rest of the world. We need God’s power TO BE what we can't be in our own strength. Pentecost is about God’s power. Jesus asked ALL the disciples to "wait for the promise" and on the day of Pentecost, they were ALL filled. And when the power fell on them they "will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." This promise of Power, the Bible says, is power with a purpose which is to equip the Church and believers to proclaim the gospel! Dearly beloved, the Church and the believer cannot do God's work without
God's Spirit. - Pastor 27/06/2007 18th March Sunday Message: Peace of Mind The one thing all of us need and desire is to have peace of mind. This
need is so strong it makes us try all sorts of things to get it, yet peace
of mind continues to elude many. Why is this so? "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 - Pastor 18/03/2007 11th March Sunday Message: Overcoming Problems Jehoshaphat was the 4th king of the separated kingdom of
Judah around 850 to 875 BC. He was a zealous follower of the commandments
of God. - Pastor 11/03/2007 Chinese New Year Outreach Service A man was born into this world; He led a perfect life and his only purpose was to bless the people. However, the people rejected his love, they rejected his words and they rejected the truth about their sins. They captured him and all his close friends abandoned him, denying any affiliation to him. After torturing him, they nailed him to a wooden cross and left him to die. If that was any ordinary man, it would be a sad and tragic story. Yet, this was no ordinary man... He is Jesus, Saviour of the world, Saviour of you and I. He died for our sins, so that this story may be proclaimed till He comes again, not with sadness, but with joy. Joy because this is the greatest victory the world has ever known! This was echoed on Sunday through our praises, through Kun Poh's testimony, through all the special items presented and through Pastor's message. Salvation is victory for those who believe in it and claim it! "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." - John 10:10. Thank God for a wonderful service and a wonderful outcome for this outreach project. Many gave their lives to Jesus and our prayers will be continually upon them, that God will grow the hunger and thirst for Him in their hearts. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! - Keith 01/03/2007 YEAH YEAH YEAH! Praise God! Our website is up! Thank God for enabling us to complete it, and much credit goes to Maria for her hard work and web/image design skills! Pray that God will use this website to bless everyone who visits. "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and all your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3. - Keith 15/06/2006 |
